What is HPS and HID grow lights?
High-pressure sodium (HPS) is a type of light bulb commonly used as a grow light in the production of cannabis. HPS bulbs, along with other types of grow lights such as metal halide (MH) and mercury vapor (MV) are known as high-intensity discharge (HID) lights.
HID lighting; high-pressure sodium (HPS) and metal halide (MH) -- there are also "dual arc" bulbs which are a sort of combination of both. The main difference between the two bulbs is the type of light spectrum they produce (because of the gas inside).

High-Pressure Sodium grow lights are dirt cheap! Even a higher end HPS system with a name-brand ballast will cost considerably less than an LED grow light of equivalent wattage. Additionally, HPS systems are modular, so if any one part in the system fails (like a bulb) you can replace it without having to pay for a completely new lighting system.
HPS grow lights produce fast growth, fat dense buds, and consistently big yields. They efficiently turn electricity into light, and they give off a type/color of light that promotes better flowering. Despite all the newer types of lights, HPS lights are still easily the most common type of grow light used today,
