What is HPS and HID grow lights?
High pressure sodium (HPS) is a type of light bulb commonly used as a grow light in the production of cannabis. HPS bulbs, along with other types of grow lights such as metal halide (MH) and mercury vapor (MV) are known as high intensity discharge (HID) lights.
HID lighting; high pressure sodium (HPS) and metal halide (MH) -- there are also "dual arc" bulbs which are a sort of combination of both. The main difference between the two bulbs is the type of light spectrum they produce (because of the gas inside).

High Pressure Sodium grow lights are dirt cheap! Even a higher end HPS system with a name-brand ballast will cost considerably less than an LED grow light of equivalent wattage. Additionally, HPS systems are modular, so if any one part in the system fails (like a bulb) you can replace it without having to pay for a completely new lighting system.
HPS grow lights produce fast growth, fat dense buds and consistently big yields. They efficiently turn electricity into light, and they give off a type/color of light that promotes better flowering. Despite all the newer types of lights, HPS lights are still easily the most common type of grow light used today,
